Finding Exercises From Specific Sources

What This Tool Does

This tool searches for mathematics exercises on specific topics from open-source collections that you identify. It's particularly useful when you know about a valuable exercise collection but don't have time to manually search through it to find exercises that match your specific requirements.

How To Use The Input Fields

Math Topic

What to input: Enter the specific math topic you need exercises for.

  • Example inputs: "Calculating missing sides using the Pythagorean Theorem," "Solving systems of linear equations," "Fractions with unlike denominators"

  • How it affects results: This will be the primary search criterion used to find relevant exercises within your specified source.

Grade Level

What to input: Select the grade level for which you need exercises.

  • How it affects results: This helps narrow down exercises that are appropriate for your students' level of understanding. The tool will try to match exercises to this grade level within your specified topic.

Country

What to input: Enter the country where your students attend school.

  • Example inputs: "Germany," "India," "UK," "Hungary"

  • How it affects results: This helps the tool interpret the source name in the correct regional context, as some collections may have different names or versions in different countries.

Source

What to input: Specify the name of the open-source exercise collection you want to search within.

  • Example inputs: "Illustrative Mathematics," "Khan Academy Exercises," "OpenStax"

  • Important note: The source must be open source and accessible for automated searching. Private or restricted collections cannot be accessed by this tool.

  • How it affects results: The tool will only search within this specific collection rather than across all available resources.

What Results You'll Receive

After processing your request, you'll receive one of two types of outcomes:

  1. If the source cannot be found or accessed:

  • A message explaining that the specified source could not be located or is not accessible for automated searching.

  1. If exercises are found:

  • Multiple exercises matching your search criteria, each including:

    • A title

    • A description of the exercise

    • A direct link to where it was found in the source

    • Tags indicating which of your search criteria are met by each exercise

Note about search accuracy: Some exercises may match your topic but could be from different grade levels than requested. The tags will clearly indicate which criteria each exercise meets, helping you quickly identify the most suitable options.

Tips For Best Results

  • Be specific with your math topic to get more targeted results

  • Verify that your source is open-access before searching

  • Check the tags on each result to confirm it meets your most important criteria Add to Conversation
